Still time to have your say on the May Fairs

This year’s Leominster and Hereford May Fairs once again attracted thousands of visitors to enjoy stalls, rides and entertainment. Even though the events have finished, Herefordshire Council still wants to hear views on the future of the May Fairs.

The Council is currently consulting with residents, businesses, visitors and other interested parties on what people value about the fairs and what they would like to see in future.

The consultation, launched ahead of this year’s fairs, has already generated strong interest, with nearly 850 responses submitted so far.

Now that both fairs have taken place, Herefordshire Council is encouraging people to share their recent experiences and views to help inform future planning and arrangements.

So far, the consultation has received:
• 554 responses relating to Hereford May Fair
• 295 responses relating to Leominster May Fair

Residents still have time to shape the future of Herefordshire’s May Fairs, with the public consultation remaining open until 23 May.

The Council is keen to hear from a wide range of people, including residents, local businesses, visitors and fairgoers.

Feedback could include views on:

  • the overall experience of the fairs
  • traffic and parking
  • noise and disruption
  • economic impact and footfall
  • safety and accessibility
  • the cultural importance of the events
  • The vibrancy and atmosphere of the fairs

Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Roads and Regulatory Services, Cllr Barry Durkin, said:

“This is an opportunity for people to share their feedback on what works well and where improvements could be made. Now the fairs have taken place, people are in the best position to reflect on their experiences and help shape future arrangements.”

The consultation closes on 23 May.

People can take part online on the May Fairs consultation web page.
